Sports Cabinet Secretary Dr. Hassan Wario Arero PhD, met last evening with Kenya's elite athletes ahead of the Monday's Boston Marathon. Speaking with the athletes in a hotel, Dr. Wario sent them a message of goodwill as they prepare for the event on Monday. The cabinet secretary who earlier attended the London Marathon to cheer off the Kenyan athletes where the First Lady of Kenya Her Excellency Margaret Kenyatta also attended said the government is very keen in supporting sports events at all levels to ensure excellent performance always prevails. "As one of the big Agendas of the jubilee manifesto, we will always as a government extend to you the support you require to succeed". He mentioned that despite last year's terrorist incident prior to the finishing line of the 2013 Boston marathon, Kenyans and all other athletes in the world could not shy away from participating to the event. He assured the athletes that terrorists are coward, shall be defeated and they will never win.


In an earlier engagement, the cabinet secretary paid a courtesy call to the governor of Boston, Deval Patrick and delivered a goodwill message from His Excellency the president, Hon. Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta. He informed the Governor that the relationship between Kenya and the United States is historical and kenya shall always stand hard to ensure even stronger ties between the two countries. Dr. Wario also mentioned that he has learnt, Boston hosts the largest population of Kenya's diaspora in the United States and hence the need to establish strong ties through trade sports, and information technology.

 

In his official tour, Dr. Wario also made several courtesies among them, his visit to the Boston memorial library where he was received by the president of the library Ms Amy Ryan. Ryan thanked the Cabinet Secretary for coming all the way to support the athletes and wished them well as they participate in the event. As he passes through different exhibitions in the memorial hall, Dr. Wario, remembered the terror event with great sympathy and said kenya as a victim of terrorrist attacks, the need for the world to unite and defeat the vice. Is now inevitable.


The cabinet secretary will today meet with the Kenyan diaspora from different parts of the united states before he officially attends to the Marathon event tomorrow.
